Helping amphibians to survive

We used to help over a thousand toads to reach the pond on Green Lane but numbers have been in decline since 2012 and very few toads are now seen at that pond.

Water levels in the pond have always been very variable but have been very low in most recent years, also the pond has become infested with Azolla.  Traffic has increased to the point where it is very difficult to effectively patrol Green Lane.

Fortunately the toads have been given a much more suitable lake at the Manor House and many are breeding there.  We now patrol the dead end section of School Lane and around the junction with Green Lane and take the toads to the Manor lake.
