helping amphibians to survive

Hempstead Patrol

The toads are trying to get to Rookery Pond on the south side of the road but are hemmed in by steep banks, which means that each passing car can kill many toads.

A patrol started here in 2012 and rescued 1451 toads and 40 frogs, which we thought was a terrific result. By 2015 we were saving 3179 toads which shows that the patrol really helps the local toad population to flourish. However we are in desperate need of more helpers for the 2016 migration, please see the contacts page for how to get in touch.
